CORD targets both HW and SW aspects of network evolution.  These include implementation of Data Center-oriented HW architectures, implementation of open source management tools, disaggregation of control plane management from HW elements, and abstracting away the management differences between different access architectures.     Tibit’s MicroPlug OLT represents the most extreme in PON architectures targeting CORD objectives.  By implementing an entire 10G OLT in an optical module housing, we push the limit in removing unnecessary HW and SW components from the OLT device itself.  All management controls are moved in-band and northbound into the network – a key design fit for VOLTHA.  The resulting SFP+ physical OLT device is designed to plug directly into a 10G switch port in a standard NFV DC rack.     Tibit was one of the original contributors to VOLTHA.  This talk will cover the design considerations of PON to specifically meet VOLTHA and CORD architecture goals.
